Membership Categories
- Member-$36,000
The basic center membership fee is $36,000 per annum. IIT
waives the overhead on the membership fees. The specific benefits
for members are listed below. Additional support in $35k increments
permits a member company to work with faculty and a graduate
student or postdoctoral research associate for 6 months on
a research project of their choosing. Additional support of
$10k supports an IPRO project for 1 semester, on a topic originating
from the center member in consultation with an IIT faculty
member. At a companies' request publication of results may
be delayed up to 1 year.
- Affiliate Member-$12,000
A company may join the center as an Affiliate Member if it
falls under the Small Business Administration definition of
a small business. For most manufacturing industries a small
business is defined as having a maximum of 500 employees.

- Access to unique center resources-research equipment,
software, personnel.
- Access to other university, industry and government resources,
e.g. Neutron diffraction.
- Ability to leverage company research effort through pooling
of company resources, and other funding.
- Participation in setting research agenda.
- Invitation to bi-annual forum for discussion of heat treat
challenges and current research.
- Beta testing of software developed in the research programs.
- Personnel exchanges.
- Student internships.
- Enhanced technology transfer through access to center
and hiring of center graduates
- Nonexclusive, royalty-free license to patents, databases
and software developed through center sponsorship.
- Copies of all bi-annual research reports.
- Participation in workshops and seminars sponsored by the
center.
- Affiliate Member
Affiliate members receive all of the above benefits except for
the royalty-free licenses.
Sample Membership Agreement
Industrial Advisory Board (IAB)
One representative from each center member and affiliate member.
The operation of the IAB is governed by by-laws to be approved
at the first meeting of the IAB. The main function of the IAB
is to set the research agenda and determine the resources to
be allocated to particular research programs. In addition it
advises on the development and operation of the center including
membership levels and fees.
